The Great Horbury Gale: Wakeylele Blown Away (But Not Off Key!) 13th June
Videos Phil Barr
It was less of a street fayre and more of an aerodynamic test for the Wakeylele Band at the Horbury Street Fayre. Under challenging, conditions, the band delivered a performance that was literally breathtaking.
- The New Chicago: Band member Roy Bennett officially rebranded the venue, describing Horbury as “the Windy City”.
- Flight of the Chords: David Flatter noted that David Blackburn’s music sheets spent significantly more time behaving like migratory birds hovering than sitting on his music stand.
- UFO Sighting: Thelma reported that even Pop’s music stand achieved several lift offs
The Verdict
Despite the elements attempting to steal their repertoire, the band blew the crowd away. The event organisers showered Wakeylele with high praise for their resilience, and refusal to let a gale stop the strumming. They proved that while the wind can carry the music sheets away, it can’t stop the music.
